Local Knowledge

We Know McKinney's Trees.

McKinney is our northern run, and it's really two cities as far as trees go. Historic downtown and the older streets around Chestnut Square have big mature pecans, post oaks and cedar elms with real age on them. Everything out toward Craig Ranch, Stonebridge Ranch, Trinity Falls and the 380 corridor is builder-planted stock from the last twenty-five years.

Those newer trees need a different kind of attention than most homeowners expect. Red oaks, chinquapin oaks, cedar elms and crape myrtles that went in with the house were often planted too deep, left staked too long, or trimmed by a mow-and-blow crew that topped them. Fixing structure at year ten costs a fraction of removing a split trunk at year twenty-five.

What McKinney Trees Deal With

Wide-open exposure and young structure. Newer McKinney subdivisions have very little wind break, so spring fronts hit unpruned canopies like a sail and snap codominant stems right at the union. We do a lot of corrective structural pruning up here: establishing one dominant leader, removing included-bark unions before they become a failure, lifting canopies off rooflines, and pulling end weight off overextended limbs. Downtown is the opposite job — heritage pecans and post oaks that need careful deadwood removal, cabling assessments and conservative reduction, not a hard cut. Blackland clay is brutal on both groups: it swells and cracks between wet springs and dry Augusts, which stresses shallow roots and shows up as summer scorch and top-down thinning. Crape myrtles get pruned properly here, never topped.

Emergency Storm Damage

North Texas wind and ice don't keep business hours. When a limb is on the roof or a trunk is across the drive, we make the scene safe first and sort the cleanup after.

FAQ

McKinney Questions.

Straight answers, no runaround.

Do you cover all of McKinney?

Yes — downtown and the historic district, Stonebridge Ranch, Craig Ranch, Trinity Falls, Adriatica and the neighborhoods along 380 and Custer. Give us the address and we'll confirm scheduling.

My builder-planted oak has two trunks. Is that a problem?

It can be. Two codominant stems with bark pinched between them is the most common failure point we see on young McKinney trees. Removing or subordinating one stem now is a small job; a split trunk over a roof later is not.

Can you prune my crape myrtles without topping them?

That's the only way we do it. We thin suckers, clear crossing branches and shape the canopy at proper cut points. Topping — crape murder — creates weak whip growth and we won't do it.

How fast can you get to McKinney after a storm?

We run McKinney on our northern route and dispatch 24/7. After a widespread front we triage by hazard — trees on structures and blocked drives first — and we'll tell you honestly where you land in the queue.
